Im IEEE Spectrum (Print-Ausgabe vom Februar 2018) wurde von Michael Dumiak am 23. Januar 2018 ein Artikel mit dem Titel „Forensic Software Pieces Together Leibniz’s Last Puzzle“ veröffentlicht, welcher sich mit dem MFB-Projekt zur digitalen Rekonstruktion der „Leibniz-Handschriften“ beschäftigt und die Relevanz des Projekts wie folgt verdeutlicht:
„Restoring the notes to their original order, researchers on the project say, could go a long way toward a better understanding of the way Leibniz came to his conclusions and establish a clearer timeline for the development of his ideas.“
