In IEEE Spectrum (February 2018 print issue), an article titled “Forensic Software Pieces Together Leibniz’s Last Puzzle” was published by Michael Dumiak on January 23, 2018, which discusses the MFB project to digitally reconstruct the “Leibniz Manuscripts” and illustrates the relevance of the project as follows:

„Restoring the notes to their original order, researchers on the project say, could go a long way toward a better understanding of the way Leibniz came to his conclusions and establish a clearer timeline for the development of his ideas.“

Matthias Wehry from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library – Lower Saxony State Library has published an article on o|bib – Das offene Bibliotheksjournal (Volume 4, Number 4 (2017)) about our project of the digital reconstruction of the “Leibniz Manuscripts” with the title ” Digitale Rekonstruktion von historischem Bibliotheksgut – Projektvorstellung Leibniz-Fragmente und Massendigitalisierung von Flachware”, in which he emphasizes:

„Ziel der virtuellen Rekonstruktion der Leibniz-Fragmente ist allerdings nicht die Wiederherstellung der Leibnizschen Ordnung im Zettelkasten, sondern die Rekonstruktion der noch unzerschnittenen Arbeitspapiere, wie sie Leibniz im Augenblick der Verschriftlichung seiner Gedankengänge angelegt hat. Für die Datierung der Fragmente für Erschließungs- und Forschungsbemühungen ist die Rekonstruktion des ursprünglichen Zusammenhangs zum Zeitpunkt der Entstehung überaus hilfreich.“

On 19.09.2017, the state capital of Hanover published a press release about the Leibniz exhibition “Leibniz in best company”, which took place from 22 September to 15 October 2017. The “Leibniz Demonstrator” of the MusterFabrik Berlin could also be tried out on site.

The Volkswagen Foundation has published a video report on flux – the first Lower Saxony Research Day on 06.05.2017, which also shows our “Leibniz Demonstrator” from minute 1:53.

“Digitales Puzzle mit Leibniz-Nachlass” – Under this title, Ute Strimmer reported for Restauro – Zeitschrift für Restaurierung, Denkmalpflege und Museumstechnik (Journal for Restoration, Conservation and Museum Technology) on 08.11.2016 about our project for the reconstruction of Leibniz’s dissected manuscripts. Michael Kempe, head of the Leibniz Research Centre of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities at the Leibniz Archives of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library in Hanover, comments on the project as follows:

„Die Pointe des Projektes ist gewissermaßen eine Leibnizsche Selbstanwendung […]. Wir versuchen, mithilfe von Leibniz‘ eigener Erfindung, der Binärrechnung 0 und 1, der daraus heute entwickelten Computersprache, die Genese dieser Erfindung nachzuzeichnen.“

On 01.07.2016, the journalist Kathrin Zinkant wrote in the History of Science section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung under the title “Genie und Schnipsel” about the estate of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and our project of the Digital Reconstruction of the “Leibniz Manuscripts”.

„Gemeinsam mit dem Berliner Softwarespezialisten Musterfabrik entwickelte das Fraunhofer Institut für Produktionsanlagen und Konstruktionstechnik (IPK) eine Methode, mit der sich die Papierfetzen im Hochdurchsatz scannen und dann am Rechner wieder zusammenfügen lassen.“
