A feature about the pilot project DigiGlue published online in the journal MUSEUM AKTUELL
In the September 2022 issue of MUSEUM AKTUELL (double issue 283+284), the trade journal for the German-speaking museum world, an article was published about the DigiGlue project. Pages 35 to 37 report on the beginnings of the project in the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim and the implementation of the technical requirements of a conservation-friendly digitization of Roman wall painting fragments.
The current status of the DigiGlue project in the announcement of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Saarland
On July 8, 2022, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Saarland) published the announcement entitled “Project “DigiGlue: Reconstruction of Roman wall paintings with digital support”. At a site visit on July 1, 2022, the excavation manager Michael Ecker from the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim presented the current status of the project and the initial results to the Minister of Education and Culture Christine Streichert-Clivot, her predecessor in office Ulrich Commerçon, the District Administrator of the Saarpfalz district Dr. Theophil Gallo, the mayor of Gersheim Michael Clivot and the head of the State Monuments Office Dr. Georg Breitner.

Der Europäische Kulturpark Bliesbruck-Reinheim ist für uns die bedeutendste touristische Attraktion in der Gemeinde und es erfüllt uns mit stolz, dass diese Ausgrabung archäologisch so bedeutsam ist. Dass nun eine für die Archäologie so bahnbrechende Technologie wie DigiGlue bei uns in Reinheim mitentwickelt und getestet wurde, hebt alles nochmal auf eine weitere Stufe.

A contribution about the project “DigiGlue” by Maximilian Friedrich for the SR television was broadcast in the program aktueller bericht on July 01, 2022. In the SR-Mediathek you can watch the broadcast again, the contribution about the “DigiGlue” project can be seen in the video from minute 15:39 to minute 16:38. The TV report shows the process of digitization and the virtual puzzle with the systems of the MusterFabrik Berlin.
Latest information about the DigiGlue project in the post of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Saarland
At a press event of the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim on July 1, 2022, the current status of the “DigiGlue” project was presented and the first results were presented. The Minister of Education and Culture of the Saarland, Christine Streichert-Clivot, also visited the park and was able to see the latest results and the digitalization process on site. In the project, 12,000 fragile Roman wall painting fragments are digitized by the scanning systems of the MusterFabrik and can then be virtually reassembled.
An “DigiGlue” begeistert mich besonders, dass hier unser antikes kulturelles Erbe und modernste digitale Technologie zusammenkommen. Die Rekonstruktion der antiken Wandmalereien zeigt, dass die Digitalisierung auch im kulturellen Bereich ganz neue und vielversprechende Möglichkeiten eröffnet. Damit schaffen wir nicht nur für die Wissenschaft, sondern auch für die Besucher:innen des Europäischen Kulturparks einen echten Mehrwert.

Nicole Kasparek from the Landesdenkmalamt Saarland gave a lecture entitled: “Pilot project DigiGlue: An assistance system for the digital reduction of wall painting fragments as a companion to restoration using the example of the provincial Roman finds from the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim”.
